MOUNTAINS & TRAILS OF ARMENIA

An active journey through Armenia’s mountains and gorges, combining hiking routes with Smbataberd Fortress, Tatev, Devil’s Bridge, and Khndzoresk.
Impressions:
No special training or prior hiking experience is required to join this tour. We have designed the itinerary to be suitable for travellers of different ages and fitness levels. However, given the active schedule, the forest hike and changes in elevation, guests with any medical conditions or contraindications to physical activity are advised to consult their doctor before travelling.
Difficulty:
Comfortable travel in groups of up to 15 guests, with transportation by Mercedes Sprinter. Professional English-speaking guides accompany the journey throughout. Accommodation is carefully selected and personally checked by our local team. Horizon Travel provides on-the-ground coordination and 24/7 support throughout the trip.

Day 1 Arrival & Yerevan
Arrival at Zvartnots International Airport, meeting with a Horizon Travel representative and transfer to the hotel.
After check-in, enjoy an evening walk through Yerevan, followed by a welcome dinner and introduction to the upcoming journey.
Overnight: Yerevan

Day 2 — Banovan–Garni Hike, Symphony of Stones & Geghard
Begin the first active day with a scenic hike from Banovan village through the Azat River Gorge to the Temple of Garni.
Continue to the impressive basalt formations of the Symphony of Stones, followed by a visit to Geghard Monastery, partly carved into the rock and included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Lunch during the excursion.
Overnight: Yerevan

Day 3 — Khor Virap & Amaghu–Noravank Hike
After breakfast, travel south to Khor Virap Monastery, one of Armenia’s most iconic viewpoints overlooking Mount Ararat.
Continue to the Vayots Dzor region and hike through the scenic Amaghu Gorge to Noravank Monastery, surrounded by dramatic red cliffs.
Lunch at Siranes Guesthouse, followed by transfer to Hermon village.

Day 4 — Smbataberd Fortress
Morning hike to Smbataberd Fortress, one of Armenia’s most impressive medieval defensive strongholds.
After the hike, transfer to Goris.
Overnight: Goris

Day 5 — Old Khndzoresk & Shinuhayr Hike
Visit the historic cave settlement of Old Khndzoresk and cross its famous suspension bridge.
Continue with a hike near Shinuhayr village, offering panoramic views over the Vorotan Gorge.
After completing the route, transfer to Lake Sevan and enjoy free time by the shore.
Overnight: Lake Sevan

Day 6 — Mount Artanish Ascent
Early start for the ascent of Mount Artanish, one of the best panoramic viewpoints over Lake Sevan.
After returning, enjoy free time by the lake. Optional kayaking is available.
Overnight: Lake Sevan

Day 7 — Dilijan National Park
Explore the scenic hiking trails of Dilijan National Park, known for its dense forests, mountain landscapes and peaceful atmosphere.
After the hike, return to Yerevan.
Overnight: Yerevan

Day 8 — Southern Summit of Mount Aragats
Early departure for Mount Aragats, Armenia’s highest mountain massif.
Ascend the Southern Summit, the most accessible of the four summits and one of the most scenic mountain routes in Armenia.
Return to Yerevan for a farewell dinner.
Overnight: Yerevan

Day 9 — Departure
Free time depending on the flight schedule.
Transfer to Zvartnots International Airport and end of the journey.
